Recent advances in information technology, including new commercial uses of the Internet
and the World Wide Web, have created both a challenge and an opportunity to educate
people in the new field known as Electronic Commerce or E-Business.
In response to this need, The University of Memphis faculty
offers a curriculum for a new interdisplinary Master of Science degree
in Electronic Commerce. The faculty involved in this joint
effort represent several areas in two colleges, The
College of Arts and Sciences and The
Fogelman College of Business and Economics.
Members of the Memphis business community have expressed strong support and assisted
in developing the program as well.
This pioneering new degree program, one of the first in E-commerce per se in the nation,
has enormous potential to address the critical need for expertise in the area.
It will promote technology education and research support and will
make available to businessses in the city and region the appropriate expertise
to competitively enter the new digital age. The program is also expected to
have a highly beneficial, synergistic effect with the new
FedEx Emerging Technology Complex being erected at
The University of Memphis.
